We had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The cleanliness was impeccable, with rooms that were immaculate and well-kept. The hotel facilities were wonderful, with a beautiful ballroom where we enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet. The staff was helpful and welcoming, providing great service throughout our stay. The location was convenient, being close to the subway and within walking distance to many historical sites in this city.

    Nothing to dislike.

This hotel is a unique part of Shanghai's history and heritage, and is extremely well located. Very few places offer such an opportunity !

the location was very nice, at walking distance of the Bund and the view from some rooms is great especially at night. The hotel is a lot of old glory and if it would be done up nicely it would be a magnificent place to be. The western food restaurant had very good western meals.

Unfortunately, the hotel is a bit neglected at parts (the room we stayed in). This includes not very clean. The bed was typically chinese: very hard

The hotel is located close to important tourist locations and has easy access to subway lines. The staff was friendly and helpful and the room was clean and well-appointed with free Internet access and a comfortable bed.

The hotel is situated near a construction site that can be noisy at times, making it difficult to sleep or relax during the day. the hotel breakfast and room service were expensive and not of the best quality or taste.

The hotel is an old glory, not investing to keep high quality. Breakfast cannot be called as such. Room indicated as deluxe is hardly comfortable with only tiny windows. Water pressure is insufficient, and warm water stopped altogether the last day !

Over the Christmas break, I stayed at a charming historical hotel located in a prime area. The rooms were cozy and beautifully decorated in traditional style. The location was perfect for exploring nearby landmarks and attractions, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet offered a variety of delicious options, including local specialties. the hotel had a great charm and atmosphere that made it a one-of-a-kind experience.

The hotel could improve in a few areas. The WiFi connection was weak and often unreliable.

Located on the bustling east Nanjing pedestrian street, Astor House Hotel offers a convenient base for exploring the city center. Just a short walk away, the imposing skyline of Shanghai is a sight to behold, especially when illuminated at night. Within the hotel, the 'Vie en rose' cafe provides a charming setting to enjoy a meal or a cup of coffee. The rooms are clean and comfortable, offering a peaceful retreat after a long day of sightseeing.

One downside is that the hotel is a bit far from the nearest metro station, making it slightly inconvenient for those relying on public transportation.

I liked the interesting, old world atmosphere of the hotel. The staff members were polite, attentive and helpful. The room was big and spacious and the furniture was tastefully chosen. I loved the high ceilings and classy wooden floorboards.

I didn't like the fact that the restaurant in the lobby area allowed smoking. I think there should be a no-smoking policy for such restaurants.

I recently stayed at this hotel and I must say, it was a great experience. the value for money was excellent. With affordable prices and breakfast included in the rate, it was a great deal. Secondly, the attention to detail in the rooms was impressive. The rooms were spacious and well-maintained, with separate shower and bathtub, and twin queen size beds. Lastly, the location of the hotel was perfect. Situated in a quiet area just over the bridge across a historic creek, it was easy to access different tourist locations in the city via nearby subway lines.

All was well during my stay at this hotel.

We found the hotel building was full of historical character - cavernous hotel, massive rooms (and I mean massive with ceiling more than 5-metre high). The location was good for us even though the nearest metro (East Nanjiing Road) is about 15 mins walk and in the August heat. It can be killing. We liked its location at the top end The Bund. The super spacious room meant that it was relaxing once we got in. Loved the french windows leading to wrought iron balcony and that the room was not over-furnished. The discounted price we paid was fine, wouldn't want to pay more than that. We walked a lot in Shanghai and if not, getting a cab is easy enough.

The hotel and our room did smell musty and that first day it got me down but soon we discovered its character and space. Front desk staff was pretty slow and not particularly friendly (perhaps language issue). We nicknamed one person Ms Kommandante because she barked: Passport! The cleaning staff were friendly. We didn't bother to complain to the hotel that the toilet roll holder kept falling off because it the plastic roll didn't fit properly into the porcelain wall holder or that the bathmat had mould (better not to have bathmat). Or that there was a nail clipping from previous occupant on the rug. We noticed a damp mouldy patch above one air condition outlet, scuffed floorboards, balcony rail that hadn't been painted for a long time and in fact the rain had damaged the wood, that the panelling on the french windows was plastic wood. But don't let us put you off (the above are comments NOT complaints) - for the price, incredible space (at least 5x more than a standard hotel room) and that's not counting the bathroom, historical character and location, what is there to complain? In all we were there 5 nights not 3.
